Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. Cabinet card of a Sioux Brave taken prisoner at Pine Ridge and brought to Fort Sheridan. Chicago, IL: George Spencer, ca 1883.

Cabinet photograph on cardstock mount of a "Brave," as identified in the negative (strong tonality and contrast, very fine condition). Recto with George Spencer's "U.S.A." (US Army) studio imprint on bottom mount, verso with "Capt. Frank D. Baldwin US" ink stamp.

The Sioux prisoner was taken from Pine Ridge to Fort Sheridan, and he later joined Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West. He wears a hairpipe (bone) breastplate with brass arm cuffs and a trade blanket across his lap.
