Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOG.] CDV & tintype street views of Iowa and Kansas, incl. war-date CDV of Mound City, KS.
CDV on cardstock mount, showing street with false fronts in Mound City, Kansas. Fort Smith, Arkansas: Parker & Tomlinson, ca 1860-1865 (toning, some soiling, some edge wear to mount). Signage includes a grocery store, harness & saddles, hardware, Ellis Hardware & Groceries (third building from left). Mound City was a recruitment center in the Civil War with a significant African American population. The Mount City Post had 200-300 troops stationed there at the time, guarding against the Confederate Guerrilla attacks along the Kansas Missouri border.
[With:] 2 1/2 x 4 1/8 in. tintype of Greenfield, Iowa, town square, ca 1880s (some vertical bends/creases to plate, some surface loss to crease near left edge). Buildings, wagons, and horses are visible in the image. A.E. Teague Stationery and Drug Store is shown with the white façade. Teague was the mayor of Greenfield in 1885. A fine view of a snowy town square.
