Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS] DE GROFF, Edward, photog. 2 boudoir cards of a Haida shaman. Sitka, AK, ca 1890.
2 boudoir photographs, each approx. 4 1/4 x 7 5/8 in., on cardstock mounts (spotting throughout, with light toning and wear to edges and corners). De Groff's imprint on verso. Each captioned on mount recto.
Titles include: "518. Witchcraft. Shaman and Witch." The shaman appears to be tying up the witch, whose face is turned away from the camera (small bit of paper loss to upper edge of image). -- "526. Witchcraft. Shaman and Sick Man (Hydah)." The shaman wears a mask and hat while crouching next to the frightened-looking sick man.
