Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS] Photographic and RPPC archive documenting the Tomah Indian Industrial School, WI.
Approx. 48 photographs, real photo postcards, and printed postcards, some dated 1931, depicting Native American students, activities, and buildings at the Tomah Indian Industrial School in Wisconsin. The photographs range in size from 3 x 4 1/2 in. to 4 x 6 in. (overall good condition with toning and edge wear, some with residue on verso, some affixed to cardboard). The school opened in 1893 and was closed in 1941.
Provenance: The images were acquired from the Estate of Margaret Wright, who retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1938 after a career working in Tomah, Wisconsin, Lawrence, Kansas, and Phoenix, Arizona.
