Lot Description
Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolver

.36 Caliber. 7.5" barrel length. SN: 13736. Blued and casehardened finish with silver plated brass gripstraps and one piece varnished walnut grip. Single-action six-shot percussion revolver featuring Ormsby's {Naval Engagement} roll engraving on the cylinder. The barrel address is applied in a single line reading -ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-, with the left frame displaying the COLTS/PATENT marking. Caliber mark on the left triggerguard is legible and reads 36 CAL. Face of the recoil shield has been struck with R and P initials, with a further P appearing at the rear edge of the triggerguard. An H stamp appears on the underside of the barrel beneath the loading lever, and a further R initial is weakly struck in the front of the cylinder. The serial numbers match on the frame, gripstraps, arbor pin, cylinder, barrel, and on the wedge pin. Item shows a bright polish on the barrel in places indicating aggressive cleaning.

Condition Report

Good to Very Good. Bore is Frosty with some patina and oxidation at the breech and some scattered light pitting with strong rifling. Metal finish is a mottled gray patina overall with brown patina over the edges of the frame and the muzzle. Retains some silver finish on the edges of the brass grips with the remaining silver displaying a dark tarnish fading into an amber patina over the brass components. The grips show some chips and flaking along the edges, scattered mars, and some dings. One of the safety notches has been broken off and repaired with the remainder showing wear but intact. Action times and indexes correctly.
