Lot Description
Colt Model 1849 "Square Back" Pocket Model or "Baby Dragoon with Loading Lever" Revolver
.31" Caliber. 4" barrel length. SN: 12985. (Mfg. Ca 1850) Blued and casehardened metal finish with silver plated brass gripstrap with square back triggerguard and one piece varnished walnut grips. Single action percussion revolver with five-shot cylinder and an octagonal barrel. The barrel address reads in two bracketed lines ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY. The left frame is marked COLTS/PATENT, and the cylinder is roll engraved with Ormsby's {Stagecoach Holdup} scene. Further inspection stamps include V and X to the left triggerguard, a 6 on the left edge of the barrel lug, and 3 behind the serial on the cylinder. The cylinder features safety pins between the chambers, and the serial numbers match on all principal components including the wedge pin. Traces of an illegible serial marking visible on the backstrap of the centerpiece on the wood grips.

Condition Report
Very Good. Bore is Frosty with some light pitting near the breech and patches of brown patina and oxidation. The barrel has taken on a brown patina with faint traces of blue on the underside of the barrel near the loading lever cutout. The markings on the barrel and cylinder show weakening, with the cylinder displaying scattered light pitting overall and a light brown patina that spreads over the frame. The gripstraps have some patches of tarnish with the silver flaking on the backstrap and rubbed off on the edges of the triggerguard. Metalwork shows some scattered dings and mars. The varnish on the grips is flaking on the butt, with both sides showing some wear and abrasions on the edges of the butt. The right side shows a pattern of light indentations on the butt, with both panels displaying some further mars and dents overall. Action times and indexes correctly. Two safety pins remain intact with some deformations and wear on the edges, while the remaining three have been worn down but remain visible.
