Markings include V/P/{eagle head} to top of barrel, US/MODEL/1873 to breech cover, and U.S./SPRINGFIELD preceded by spread eagle on lockplate. Heel of buttplate is marked US. Stock is marked with a 39 to comb, 39/G.H. to right side of butt, and a boxed SWP/1886 Samuel W. Porter inspector cartouche to left side of wrist. Bottom of wrist features circle P proof.
