U.S. Model 1866 2nd Allin Conversion Rifle Musket
Indian Wars
.50-70 CF. 36.75" round barrel. SN: NSN. Bright finish, color casehardened breech block, American Black Walnut stock. Single shot breechloading metallic cartridge military rifle converted from a percussion muzzleloading rifle musket. Lock marked in two lines forward of the hammer U.S./SPRINGFIELD and with a {Spread-Winged Eagle} and dated 1864 at the tail. Breech block marked 1866 over an {Eagle Head}. No cartouches are visible on the counterpane. The gun retains the correct 1866 pattern L-shaped leaf rear sight, the original musket pattern front sight/bayonet lug and retains both sling swivels. A jag head full-length cleaning rod is present as well.
