Lot Description
** Remington Model 11 with Military Markings and 26 Inch Barrel
World War II
12 Gauge. 26" barrel length. SN: 702935. Brushed blued metal finish overall with polished bolt mounting walnut semi pistol grip stock and forend. Long-recoil operated internal tube magazine fed semi-automatic shotgun mounting a front bead sight. The stock has been fitted with an aftermarket RED HEAD BRAND marked recoil pad on a black synthetic spacer, but features military markings to all major components. The left butt is struck with the {Crossed Cannons} mark followed by the FJA initials for inspector Colonel Frank J. Atwood. The upper left receiver and the top of the barrel both show US {Ordnance Bomb} markings with the left receiver additionally struck MILITARY FINISH. The receiver is void of engraving and shows only the Remington/TRADE MARK stamp. The bolt is marked MODEL 11, and the shotgun features the standard model and barrel codes including an RMM date code indicating manufacture in 1943, along with a riot pattern endcap. The US military acquired 60,006 Remington Model 11 pattern shotguns during the course of World War II, primarily in the Riot configuration with a 20 inch barrel, and a standard Remington marked buttplate. Longer barrel shotguns were acquired prior to World War II for use in anti-aircraft gunnery training. These shotguns arrived in two serial number ranges, with this item's number placing it in the latter range. Cylinder bore. 2.75" chamber length.
