Lot Description
*Smith & Wesson K-38 Combat Masterpiece with German Style Deep Relief Engraving
.38 Special. 6" pinned ribbed barrel. SN: K313568. Blued finish, color casehardened trigger and hammer, relief carved hardwood S&W medallion grips with engraved German silver diamond escutcheons. Double action K-frame swing out fluted cylinder revolver with 6 chambers, .5" wide grooved target trigger, .5" wide checkered target hammer, no outline adjustable rear sight and semi-Patridge front sight. Standard Smith & Wesson markings, matching serial number on butt, under barrel and on rear face of cylinder. Assembly number 2GB49 on the lower left of frame under grip, and on crane, with a larger 6 in those locations and the crane recess of the frame. The revolver has been engraved in a German style with deep relief oak leaves on a stippled background, covering the sides of the barrel, the frame and most of the cylinder. The grips show deep relief carving with flowing open Arabesque style scrolls. The interiors of the grips both have a blurred ink stamp that appears to read EIA FFM DOMPLATZ. A really lovely K frame 38 with attractive German style engraving and nicely enhanced grips. The revolver includes a wooden box without an insert or interior.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition Report
Fine. Bore mostly bright with crisp rifling and some old residue near the muzzle. Metal retains nearly all of the deeply blued finish with the hammer and trigger showing muted and dulling case colors. All markings remain clear and crisp, as does the engraving. A minor turn ring is present on the cylinder. Mechanically functional action. Grips crisp and fine with only the most minor light surface handling marks. Box fair to good with no interior or insert.
