BALKAN NEOLITHIC MASK OF A MOURNER 5th-4th Millennium BC

Baked terracotta, the face turned slightly upwards, with an arched brow, large elliptical eyes, long nose and short incised mouth, with three vertical strokes of pigment on the left cheek, raised on a wooden mount.

H: 5.1, W: 4.5 in. (mounted).

Provenance: with Royal-Athena Galleries, New York, 2000, inventory number DVZ14, (copy of the original purchase invoice to be included).
