Lock marked U.S./NORWICH and with a {Spread-Winged Eagle} forward of the hammer and dated 1864 horizontally at the tail. Top of breech dated 1864 as well with the usual V/P/{Eagle Head} inspection and proof marks on the left angled flat. No cartouches visible in the wood. Retains a correct 1861 pattern 3-leaf rear sight, the combination front sight and socket bayonet lug and both sling swivels. A reproduction ramrod is in the channel under the barrel.
