8vo. Original black cloth (hinges tender, slight rubbing, a touch of wear to extremities); dust jacket (some minor staining, light rubbing and chipping, a few losses not affecting text including a 1/2 x 2-cm. loss in spine panel not affecting text).
FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with the capital "A" on the copyright leaf, and with the dropped "t" in "two hundred twenty-five pounds" on p. 159. IN THE FIRST ISSUE DUST JACKET, with Stallings' review on the rear panel. A collection of 14 short stories, 6 of which were printed here for the first time including “The Light of the World”, “A Way You’ll Never Be”, "The Mother of a Queen," “Fathers and Sons”, and others.
