Reva Fox was a member of "The Collective," a group of people with similar philosophical outlooks as Rand who coalesced around her following the publication of The Fountainhead in 1954. Fox's brother Nathaniel Branden was a psychotherapist who at the time was engaged in an extramarital affair with Rand which ended shortly after Atlas Shrugged was published in October 1957.

This copy is one of only five known copies dated prior to publication; they were issued to members of The Collective "because of the group's questions about Atlas Shrugged...
