[MILITARIA] 10 American buttons from the Estate of Carroll J. Delery III. Late 18th-19th century.
Lot comprised of 10 excavated buttons ranging in size from approx. 1/2 in. to 3/4 in. diameter, dating from the Revolutionary War-era through the 1800s.
Many buttons are accompanied by modern tags furnished by the consignor, with no further provenance accompanying the lot. Highlighted buttons include: US 6th Regiment. -- 7th Massachusetts Ordnance, excavated in Hudson Highlands, imported from France. Provenance: Ex Sprouse Collection (consignor notes). -- Georgia state Navy, found in Savannah (consignor notes). -- 5th Regiment. -- 6th Regiment. -- 7th Massachusetts. -- 5th Massachusetts. -- 3rd South Carolina, found in Charleston (consignor notes). -- Button that appears to include a crown, attributed to Massachusetts (consignor notes).
[With:] Buckle and coin accompanied by modern, typed label furnished by consignor indicating that the 2 items are Revolutionary War artifacts excavated at a campsite of American militia in the Mt. Pleasant area of Charleston, from where they defended northern lines during the British siege of 1780.
