A scarce and handsome copy of William Faden's important map of North America and the United States, the seventh issue of fourteen overall states. First issued during the American Revolution in 1777 as The British Colonies in North America, following the war Faden reissued it under the current title. Over a 60-plus year period it was frequently updated by Faden, and others, to reflect the changing geopolitical situation on the continent, shown here in different hand-colored outlining to reflect the United States, Britain, Spain, France, and Native American territorial holdings. This issue is notable for showing the short-lived State of Franklin.
