Illustrated with 46 double-page hand-colored engraved maps of America (all but one with letterpress borders of descriptive text), one uncolored double-page engraved view, one hand-colored double-page engraved table, and five letterpress tables (4 double-page, some in hand-color). Bound to style in three-quarter dark blue straight-grain morocco over contemporary marbled paper-covered boards, boards rubbed, stamped in gilt; matching marbled endpapers; text leaves and maps mounted onto stubs; scattered offsetting and foxing. First edition of one of the most important early atlases printed in the United States, with individual hand-colored maps of each state, and including a seminal map of the West by Stephen H. Long.
