KLAPROTH, Julius von (1783-1835) Travels in the Caucasus and Georgia, performed in the years 1807 and 1808, by command of the Russian Government. London: for Henry Colburn, 1814. 4to (260 x 208 mm). Contemporary sprinkled calf, edges blue (some wear, particularly to spine, a few old tape repairs, discreet library label on spine.) FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, translated by F. Shoberl. Klaproth travelled to St. Petersburg after receiving an invitation from Count Potocki to accompany the Russian Mission to Peking; after making it as far as Urga, he traveled through Mongolia on his own, and in 1807, was comissioned to lead an expedition to Caucasus and Georgia.
