A Greek Terracotta Female Head with a Melon Coiffure

Tarentine, Circa 3rd Century B.C.

Height 6 3/4 inches (17 cm).

Condition Report

Intact as preserved. The proper left ear is now lost; the proper right ear intact with a single piercing hole. Minor chipping, pitting, and abrasions throughout. Gesso still evident on the face, neck, and areas of the hair. Minor gash to the top proper left side of the coiffure with loss; other chips on the rim of the coiffure. The back of the coiffure and neck are hollow and open; the neck fits into a dowel connected to a modern base, not permanently affixed. The break at the neck is uneven with some loss on the proper left side. Height with stand 10 1/2 inches. Overall in very attractive and stable condition.
