Great Lakes Steatite Pipe Bowl, with Catlinite and Lead Inlay
fourth quarter 19th century
T-shaped with pointed prow and lead star inlay; elongated conical bowl having checkered design
length 8-1/4 inches x height 4-1/4 inches
Collected by Paul Cowles (1945-2020), Rush, New York.
Cowles was a lifetime collector of First Nations Art and Artifacts, as well as fine firearms and other militaria and Americana. As a US Army Veteran serving in SE Asia in the early and mid-1960's many of his collecting interests revolved around the US military and sporting arms.
