A collection of lenses and partial manuscript list referencing locations where Fitz telescopes would be sent, found in the workshop of George W. Fitz, Peconic, New York.
Partial manuscript list(s) listing names and locations possibly related to Fitz telescope orders, although this cannot be confirmed (significant loss and deterioration to lists).
[With:] Yellow envelope inscribed "Henry Fitz Esq," containing lens, 2 3/8 in. dia. -- Brown envelope addressed to "Mrs. Julia W. Fitz / 237 Fifth St. / New York," inscribed at lower right, "By Capt. Halleck," containing lens, 2 3/4 in. dia. -- Yellow envelope addressed to "Mr. Henry Fitz / 237 Fifth St. / New York," postmark no longer legible. -- Yellow envelope addressed to "Henry Fitz Esq. / New York City / N.Y.," partial postmark remains, dated August 1868. Creasing, tears, soiling to envelopes.
[Also with:] Counsellor cigar box containing approx. 12 circular lenses/glass samples, largest 4 1/4 in. dia. -- R.G. Sullivan's 7-20-4 Perfectos cigar box containing approx. 20 circular lenses/glass samples, largest 2 3/16 in. dia. -- Old Virginia Cheroots cigar box containing 11 lenses/glass samples, largest 4 in. dia. -- Old Virginia Cheroots cigar box containing approx. 20 lenses/glass samples, thickness varies, largest 3 1/4 in. dia.
