A collection of lenses and glass samples with manuscript notes addressed to Henry Fitz, New York, found in the workshop of George W. Fitz, Peconic, New York.
Glass samples with red powder residue. Largest approx. 7/8 x 7/8 in. Housed in envelope addressed to "Mr Fitz / telescope maker / New York." With a partial Pennsylvania postmark.
[With:] Yellow envelope addressed, "Mr Henry Fitz / 237 Fifth St. / New York" with 20 June n.y., Westport, CT postmark and stamp.
[Also with:] Traveler cigar box containing approx. 24 glass samples, including square, rectangular, circular, and octagonal examples, largest approx. 4 x 3 1/4 in., thickness varies. Some are wrapped in tissue or newspaper, incl. rectangular example covered in newspaper with penciled inscription, "Not good / Dec. 23d 61." -- Country Gentleman cigar box containing approx. 14 circular lenses/glass samples, largest approx. 2 5/8 in. dia. -- Buster Brown's Stockings box containing approx. 22 circular lenses/glass samples, some with red powder residue, largest 2 1/2 in. dia.
