Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Quarter plate tintype of Union officers leading western Infantry company. N.p.: N.p., [1861-1865].
Quarter plate hand-colored tintype. (A few minor scuffs, some glare has darkened out the left subjects.) Housed in a Rare patriotic union case, Union and Constitution 2 [Berg 1-188] (some chipping and a crack to one edge, hinges slightly loose but intact).
Outdoor scene of an infantry company drawn up for the photographer. The prevalence of slouch hats worn by the troops suggests the company is western. The sashes of two officers are expertly tinted red, delicate gilding has been added to buttons, and there is a hint of green added to the full trees in the background. A young drummer boy with his instrument is pictured with the front line.
