Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. For the Fifth Oneida Reg't. Utica, NY: Roberts, Book and Job Printer, 1862.
26 x 37 3/4 in. letterpress broadside (spotting and repair throughout). Undersigned in type by Captain and Recruiting Officer Jacob Wicks. Center features a large illustration of an eagle on a shield, holding a banner reading, "For the Flag and the Country!" in its beak. Text near bottom urges men to "Be Patriots and Volunteer! Rally for your Homes! And your Institutions. Fall in for the Country and your Flag, and do battle now, that you and your children's children may enjoy Peace and Liberty, and this accursed Rebellion may be crushed utterly and forever."
The 146th New York Infantry was one of 5 infantry regiments of volunteers raised by Oneida County. The regiment was organized at Rome and mustered in for three years' service on 10 October 1862.
