Lot Description
Confederate Agrider H. Dufilho Staff & Field Officer's Sword with broken blade. New Orleans, Louisiana.
18 3/8 in. overall length (of the original 30 in. blade). The blade is not etched and has an unstopped fuller. The maker’s name and address, “DUFILHO N. ORLEANS,” is stamped on the blade in the fuller 3 1/2 in. above the guard. At the point of the break the edge is uneven with a small flange like protrusion thus giving the appearance that the blade was snapped. Sword with an unpierced counter guard and high relief “C.S.” separated by the Louisiana pelican coat of arms. The leather wrap grip with twisted wire is intact and untouched (only minor wear). The two piece pommel cap has a cast decoration of laurel leaves. A 15 in. section remains of the original scabbard with brass fittings. A rare Confederate sword.
