Lot Description
Civil War artillery and company insignia displayed on vintage pasteboard.
3 1/4 x 1 3/4 in. Model 1858 US Army regulation enlisted crossed cannon headgear insignia, 1 1/8 x 1 in. company letter "M," and metal finger ring (some spotting, discoloration, and residue to surfaces; devices no longer attached to card). Devices attached to separated vintage pasteboard card with thread remnants and faded imprint of insignia visible. The grouping was likely preserved this way by an early collector, or perhaps by the veteran himself, for display purposes.
The crossed cannon hat device featured here is one of the most difficult devices to find genuinely used, non-surplus, and non-excavated, plus with all original wire fastener loops correctly soldered and completely intact.
