Civil War-period writing group, comprising:
Pen case with "Leroy W. Fairchild, Maker New York” embossed on the lid. The case holds a wooden-handled ink pen with brass nib.
[With:] Cardboard box of G.W. Woolley’s Patent Fountain Pen No.1 Philadelphia nibs.
[With:] Wooden traveling inkwell with screw-on top (glass insert intact).
[With:] Cardboard spectacle case with brass glasses. Glasses have a hallmark of “Benz” on the left temple. The temples slide to accommodate the size of the wearer.
[Also with:] Cardboard case holding a brass map reader marked “Patented Apr, 14, 1863” on the handle, with two hinged lenses that fold out to enable the user to have magnification for both eyes. The reader folds flat to fit in the case.
