Condition Report
In overall fine, stable and usable condition.  Retaining a fairly even color and finish throughout, though perhaps refinished or waxed more recently. Rose-head nails visible to the backboards, which appear to be original, though the small bottom slat may be later added to accommodate for shrinking in the other boards. Dirt and residue visible to the surface in areas. Old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Few areas of minor veneer loss or patches. Brass escutcheon panel for the top drawer, that is lacking in online images, is detached and retained though lacking the appropriate nails. No key. Age cracks visible to the top that has been reinforced with perpendicular blocks to the underside.  There are other age cracks visible to the drawer bottoms, though the drawers still have a fairly smooth action.  Drawer pulls, while stylistically of the period, are likely replaced, though the finish history suggests they've been in place for a long time. The proper front right foot is ever so slightly loose, but still structurally sound.
Secondary woods: Pine and chestnut (or ash)

The physical condition of lots in our auctions can vary due to age, normal wear and tear, previous damage, and restoration/repair. All lots are sold "AS IS," in the condition they are in at the time of the auction, and we and the seller make no representation or warranty and assume no liability of any kind as to a lot's condition. Any reference to condition in a catalogue description or a condition report shall not amount to a full accounting of condition. Condition reports prepared by Hindman staff are provided as a convenience and may be requested from the Department prior to bidding.

The absence of a posted condition report on the Hindman website or in our catalogues should not be interpreted as commentary on an item's condition. Prospective buyers are responsible for inspecting a lot or sending their agent or conservator to inspect the lot on their behalf, and for ensuring that they have requested, received and understood any condition report provided by Hindman.
