Condition Report
In overall fine, stable and usable condition.  Retaining a fairly even, dark color throughout, though there are areas of lacquer or varnish piled more heavily in recesses and corner, perhaps suggesting a more recent finish in areas.  Age crack visible to the top, the rear and the sides of the case.  Old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use.  The glass pulls, while seemingly early, are likely replacements.  There is a surface history suggesting a circular brass plate once touched the drawer fronts. The top drawer previously compartmented along one side and the lower drawer may have had a false bottom at one time.  Lacks a key. The lower drawer action is a bit tight, while the upper drawer is fairly smooth. The molding along the bottom of the case on the proper right side is lacking. There is a loss to the veneer, about 4-inches in length, to the proper front left leg.  Few other small veneer losses. The proper front left and rear right legs were likely previously detached at the junction with the plinth and have been reinforced.

The physical condition of lots in our auctions can vary due to age, normal wear and tear, previous damage, and restoration/repair. All lots are sold "AS IS," in the condition they are in at the time of the auction, and we and the seller make no representation or warranty and assume no liability of any kind as to a lot's condition. Any reference to condition in a catalogue description or a condition report shall not amount to a full accounting of condition. Condition reports prepared by Hindman staff are provided as a convenience and may be requested from the Department prior to bidding.

The absence of a posted condition report on the Hindman website or in our catalogues should not be interpreted as commentary on an item's condition. Prospective buyers are responsible for inspecting a lot or sending their agent or conservator to inspect the lot on their behalf, and for ensuring that they have requested, received and understood any condition report provided by Hindman.
