Lot Description
Three Silk Bodices, 1840s

This lot includes three bodices.

THE FIRST
Blue silk quilted satin and polka dot jacquard short sleeve bodice with banded collar and hook and eye closures at center front and back.

THE SECOND
Maroon silk satin plaid jacquard long sleeve bodice with pleated front detail, covered oval shaped buttons, and center back hook and eye closures. Attached tag reads: "This bodice belonged to Mrs. Kerr my great grand aunt. She brought up my grandmother till she married. She was first a Miss Hay and married twice. / 1st Mrs. Halden / 2nd Mrs. Kerr" The back reads: "Mrs. H. Ritchie / Feb 1930"

THE THIRD
Blue and bronze silk iridescent taffeta bodice with gathered front and scalloped tiered sleeves, band collar, and center back hook and eye closures.

Condition Report
Condition:

THE FIRST
The overall condition is very good structurally with the following:
Fading/Color Change: the lining has darkened slightly.  
Soiling/Spots: There is some soiling under each arm, visible in lining and shell. 

THE SECOND
The overall condition is good structurally with the following:
Fading/Color Change: The maroon color on the shell has degraded in several spots, leaving lightened areas and fading, mostly under the arms and sleeve hems. 
Soiling/Spots: There are minimal spots on the interior lining. 
Repairs/Alterations: There appears to be a repair made in the lining of the left underarm.

THE THIRD
The overall condition is fair with the following:
Structural Issues: The taffeta is shattering along both shoulders, collar, and worn spots on the bottom hemline at center front.  
Soiling/Spots: There are some small spots throughout the lining. There is additional interior soiling under each arm and in the upper shoulder area. 
Repairs/Alterations: There appears to have been an alteration made on the right side seam to make the bodice larger.
