Lot Description
**A Pair of Consecutively Numbered James Purdey & Sons 20 Bore SxS Hammerless Shotguns Made for the Spanish Marquis de Villabragima, in Original Motor Case with Accessories
A pair of consecutively numbered 20 bore side-by-side hammerless shotguns by James Purdey & Sons, completed in June of 1967 for the Spanish noble, Alvaro de Figueroa y Fernández de Liencres (b.1918), the 3rd Marquis de Villabragima. Set includes:

1.) 20 bore. 28" barrels. 14.5" length of pull. 1.375" drop to comb. 2.125" drop to heel. 2.75" chambers. Improved cylinder and 1/2 choke chokes. Cast off. Weight at completion 5 lb. 9.75 oz. SN: 27445. Blued metal finish to barrels and triggerguard, case hardened finish to frame, nitre blued finish to sidelock pins and screws. Two piece walnut cast-off stock has multi-point checkering to straight English grip and splinter forearm, with push button release and carved tear drops to side panels. Break action side by side hammerless sidelock shotgun with a smooth concaved barrel rib and steel bead front sight. Item features double triggers, auto-ejectors, 8-pin sidelock, leather covered recoil pad, and a checkered thumb toggle safety with gold inlaid SAFE. Engravings include tight English style floral bouquets and scrollwork, with floral borderwork, rosette screws, and neoclassical motifs overall to frame and parts. Bottom edge of stock is fitted with a silver oval escutcheon engraved with a {Crown}/V monogram. Markings include matching 1 marks to top of lever and to rib of barrels, as well as J. PURDEY & SONS. to both sides of frame, and an arched J. PURDEY & SONS/LONDON/ENGLAND to bottom of frame. Barrel rib is marked J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. ENGLAND. Bottom of barrels show serial numbers marked to both barrels, as well as steel markings, firing proofs, G.W., and PURDEY. Water tables are marked with two {Crown}/GP proofs surrounding a number 1.

Items are cased in the original James Purdey & Sons brown leather motor case with burgundy felt interior, manufacturer labels, tools, and cleaning accessories. Exterior of case also has {Crown}/V monogram.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition Report
Very good plus. Both bores are bright and clean. Finish is strong overall. Wood stocks are in great condition. Recoil pad on gun 1 is missing one of the screw plugs. Case is also in good condition.
