Lot Description
US Navy Contract Antique Colt New Navy .38 Revolver
.38 Long Colt. 6" barrel length. SN: 70684. Blued metal refinish overall with polished hammer flanks mounting checkered walnut Colt medallion grips. Double action six-shot revolver mounting topstrap notch and half-circle front blade sights. Butt displays US Navy marks reading USN/{Anchor}/38DA/{Trident}/No/7878. Inspector initials NCT for Nathan C. Twining. Assembly numbers match where visible, but the barrel shows no address, indicating it was replaced at some point. Serial number falls outside of typical range for Navy Contract New Army and Navy Revolvers. Left frame shows an NJ marking suggesting possible acquisition by the New Jersey State Police.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition Report
Good as Refinished. Bore is bright with rounded edges to the rifling. Refinish displays scattered light scratches overall with brown flecking over the recoil shield and rear cylinder. Flanks of the hammer show gray patina forming. Grips are worn with the checkering worn flat in places and the medallion details worn down. Action shows good timing.
