The Western regional location of Hindman operates as an office and saleroom in downtown Denver. Appraisal appointments are available through our Denver office across all collecting categories, and property is sent to Chicago to be included in our globally recognized auctions. We conduct two annual Arts of the American West auctions which feature Historic and Contemporary Western paintings and sculpture, American Indian art and artifacts, beadwork, basketry, Navajo textiles, pueblo pottery and Southwestern jewelry. Additional departments include but are not limited to Jewelry and Timepieces, Asian Works of Art, Postwar and Contemporary Art, Fine Prints and Photography, American and European art, Books and Manuscripts, Historic Firearms and Militaria, Period Furniture, Decorative Arts and Silver, Modern Design, Luxury Accessories and Couture, Numismatics and Stamps.
We have a strong presence in Colorado but regularly handle collections or consignments from markets such as Santa Fe, Jackson and Aspen while also serving the broader Rocky Mountain and western regions, including the Dakotas, Idaho, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Montana and Texas.
In addition to our Arts of the American West auctions, additional auctions of various property are conducted in the Denver saleroom.
Sam Cowan is the Business Development Manager for the Denver branch of Hindman.
Sam has spent his life in the auction industry, accompanying his father, Wes Cowan to auctions, trade shows and eventually to his own eponymous auction house, in the mid-1990s. He joined his father’s auction house, Cowan’s, full-time in 2012 in the Arms and Armor department and as a fine and decorative arts specialist, a department where he would ultimately become director. Sam has an interest in 20th century design, pottery, early advertising, historic Americana and antique firearms. He is a licensed auctioneer in three states and is a featured appraiser on The Antiques Roadshow.
Maron Hindman is Vice Chair of the Southwest Region at Hindman.
Ms. Hindman meets daily with clients to evaluate personal property and assess current market demand for a range of collecting categories including but not limited to Native American art, artifacts and jewelry, western paintings and bronzes, American and European art, and furniture and decorative arts. She coordinates consignments from individuals, private collections, estates and museums throughout the west and southwest region. She started her auction career at Hindman’s Chicago office, handling bids and client services, eventually serving as the Director of Marketing. Additionally, she is one of the principle auctioneers. After her time at the Chicago branch, Ms. Hindman went on to open the regional auction saleroom in Denver in 2012, expanding the firm’s presence in the West. For over 25 years she has been active and participates as an auctioneer in numerous charity auction events including the U.S. Fund for Unicef, USO, Children’s Home and Aid Society, Easter Seals Greater Chicago, Wellness House and the Brookfield Zoo, Easters Seals Colorado, Up with People, Porter Hospital to name a few.
