Showroom of Style: Property from Linden House to be Offered at Hindman
CHICAGO – Hindman announces that it will present property from the impressive Indianapolis estate, Linden House, this April and May. Built by Christel DeHaan, a collector, businesswoman and philanthropist, the house is the culmination of her lifelong passion for the arts. The collection of furniture, decorative arts and fine art to be offered was thoughtfully developed to complement and enhance the home.
DeHaan cofounded Resort Condominiums International and is celebrated for her significant contributions to the travel and tourism industry. In addition to her many accomplishments, DeHaan founded Christel House International, a global children’s charity committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and transforming the lives of children.
Designed by Bunny Williams and David Ellison, the 41,000 square foot property features 61 rooms and is surrounded by formal gardens, terraces and immaculate landscaping. Located on a private 35-acre lake at the site of what was formerly the location of a Benedictine Monastery, the home featured a strong selection of 18th through 21st century furniture and fine art. The property sold for $14.5 million, a record for the highest selling property in Indiana’s history, in September 2022. RH (formerly Restoration Hardware) is planning to open their newest gallery there.
“The Linden House collection is a stunning example of how to seamlessly integrate history and modernity. The house’s historic objects and contemporary accents are in harmony with its works of art and splendid gardens,” commented Corbin Horn, Hindman Vice President and Senior Specialist of European Furniture & Decorative Arts. “We expect collectors across categories and around the world to be inspired by the house’s architecture as well as the vision of the homeowner and designer.”
The collection will be offered across three sales: the April 13th European Furniture & Decorative Arts auction, the May 18th European Art auction, and the May 19th American Art auction.
Fine Art | May 18 -19
Works by renowned French and Italian artists will be offered in the May 18th European Art auction, including Gustave Loiseau and Charles Amable Lenoir. Highlighting the selection will be Loiseau’s 1905 oil on canvas Le quai du Pothuis à Pontoise (estimate: $80,000-120,000). Loiseau is viewed as one of the foremost Post-Impressionist painters, and this painting is a superb example of the artist’s gently diffusive light as it reflects off the flowing water.
