Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Sixth plate tintype of a Federal rifleman armed with target rifle and revolver.
Sixth plate tintype standing portrait of a young private. (Some surface mottling and loss to focus in certain areas; unsealed.) Housed in a full pressed paper case with patriotic motif (heavy surface wear, spine with some separation and repair). The subject wears a non-regulation frock coat with riflemen's over-the-shoulder leather gear and a prominent powder horn. He holds a Dimick style civilian target rifle, possibly of the kind carried by the 66th Illinois, Birge's Western Sharpshooters. He also carries a belted large frame revolver without holster, which could be a photographer's prop.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
