Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 3 autographed items, highlighted by: SHERMAN, William Tecumseh (1820-1891). Autograph letter signed ("W.T. Sherman") as Commanding General of the US Army. Washington, DC. 24 November 1874. 

Addressed to Col. L.B. Church. On "Headquarters Army of the United States" letterhead. 6pp, 5 x 8 in. (creasing at folds, toning, pencil notations). Sherman expresses his well wishes as Col. Church recovers from an illness, noting that "I know that in conveying to you this note of sympathy, I also can assure that the prayers of every member of that Grand Old Army, and of the millions they represent" will join him in hopes that "your overtaxed lungs may regain their usual health & strength." Sherman also mentions the overwhelming crowds present in D.C. for the dedication of the statue honoring General George H. Thomas.

[With:] ABLE, Ilu. Army mail contractor and news dealer. Autograph letter signed ("Ilu Able"), to Captain Robert M. Goodwin, involving statement of Saturday mail delivery terms and conditions. Stevenson, AL, 24 August 1863. 

[With:] GLENDINNING, John. Autograph letter signed ("Lieut. J. Glendinning") from Lieutenant John Glendinning to unknown recipient, including discussion about the 12th Army Corps under Union General Henry W. Slocum.
