Lot Description

[WORLD WAR II]. Homefront and commemorative items.

Venetian blind-form homefront commemorative. Approx. 10-5/8” wide, with 9 wood slats plus headrail and bottom rail pieces. Overall, about 18 in. long. One cloth tape ladder is red, the other blue. Each slat has a male name on the outer part and a patriotic note on the central part. Presume the men are friends and relatives in service, and some seem to be from the same families (for example, this one has Calvin Hall, Blaine Hall and Wally Hall). The patriotic sayings range from “Remember Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1942 [sic – should be 1941]; God Bless America; Buy War Bonds, Back the Attack; If you don’t write, you’re Wrong / Use V mail.” More. There are 18 various buttons stuck in the cloth tape, also. These range from “Welcome Home 83rd Air Borne Division,” to “For President, Franklin D. Roosevelt,” and “General Douglas MacArthur” and “Gen. George Patton.” Plus the standard “Remember Pearl Harbor,” an image of a flag with “Long May it Wave,” and “Fight For Freedom” over a “V” (for Victory). A lovely piece of patriotic folk art.

Three War Bond posters:  * Official U.S. Treasury Poster – “85 Million Americans Hold War Bonds”  10 x 14”
 * DOHANOS, Stevan. “Award for careless Talk” U.S. Government Printing Office, 1944. 20 x 26”
 * Pour des Jours Meilleurs… U.S. War Bonds. U.S. Government Printing Office, 1943. 22 x 28” Simple image of the Statue of Liberty.

BRAGG, Ralph F. “MacArthur’s Here Again.” Sheet Music, 2pp. On back page “Buy ‘em / Keep ‘em / War Bonds Speed Victory.”

Two folders for “The ‘Victory’ Liberty Loan.  Thrift helped win the War; Thrift will help us take full advantage of a victorious Peace.”

Two small glass picture frames, cardboard kickstand on verso. One with “Keep ‘em Flying” and silhouettes of aircraft in lower quarter. The other with “The Flag I Love.”

“Take a punch at Hitler – Jobber’s Advertiser”. With 150 faces of the Fuhrer to punch with purchases. If the punch reveals certain numbers, one would win a candy bar!

5-1/2 x 8-1/2” yellow cards. “I helped to save his life Today. By Donating a tablespoon of Waste Fat Which Will be Used in Making Sulfa Drugs to Treat Our Wounded.” As you put your tablespoon of fat into your container, you check off one of the “enemy” faces. “31 Tablespoons make a pound of Fat.”15 unused cards.
