Lot Description
ROOSEVELT, Theodore (1858-1919). Document signed ("Theodore Roosevelt"). Washington, D.C., 26 December 1901. 

15 5/8 x 20 5/8 in. partly printed document, minor creasing. Also signed by Secretary of War, Elihu ROOT (1845-1937). 

Military appointment for Jeremiah Z. Dare to Quartermaster with the rank of captain, from 2 February 1901. The appointment was made by President McKinley, but the presentation document was not issued until after his assassination and was signed by President Roosevelt.

Jeremiah Dare (1839-1922) of Zanesville, OH served for 50 years in the United States Army, in different capacities in the quartermaster's department, serving as first assistant to General Holabird, the chief clerk at the Quartermaster's department in Washington, D.C. during the Spanish-American War. He retired from service on 20 July 1903.
