WINTON, M.H., artist. JACACKS, N., publisher. View of Tippecanoe Battle Ground. Lithograph with hand-coloring, 1840. approx. 23 1/2 x 14 in., on laid paper, edges trimmed, toned, some spotting. framed, not examined out of the frame. RARE: no other copies located.
An 1840 presidential campaign lithograph commemorating William Henry Harrison's famous victory at Tippecanoe. Harrison's war record and nom de guerre were major campaign strengths in the election seeing the Whigs win the presidency.
[With:] KURZ & ALLISON, lithographers. Battle of Tippecanoe. Chromolithograph, 1889, visible 19 1/2 x 26 1/2 in., on laid paper, matted and framed, not examined out of the frame.
There was a resurgence in interest in the War of 1812, and in particular William Henry Harrison and Tippecanoe, during the 1888 presidential election and presidency of Harrison's grandson, President Benjamin Harrison.
