[CIVIL WAR]. Model 1861 cartridge box by Gaylord, Chicopee, MA.
Federal cartridge box with approx. 7 x 5 3/8 x 1 1/2 in. internal box containing original magazine tins, inner flap faintly stamped for Gaylord of Chickopee, MA, implement pouch, and approx. 7 7/8 x 6 1/2 in. outer flap bearing 1839 Pattern die-struck brass "US" box plate (some crazing and crackling to leather throughout with spots of loss and areas of separation and stitching loss; some separation to tins; plate with significant nicking and some chipping around edge). Belt loops present with stitching repair, latch tab separated; buckles removed and brass finial missing, finial replaced with a New York general service button.
