Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Pewter, leather, and glass whiskey flask with engraved identification.
5 1/2 x 3 x 1 1/4 in. pewter, leather, and glass whiskey flask (majority of glass missing, tarnish to pewter, chipping and surface wear to leather). Pewter cup inscribed, "Col. F.L. Lee, 44 Reg. Ms. Inf., 1862."
Francis L. Lee enlisted as a major on 26 May 1862, and was commissioned into the 4th Massachusetts Battalion the following day. Just a few days later, he was mustered out. He was then commissioned a colonel of the 44th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment on 12 September 1862, in which capacity he served until mustering out on 18 June of the following year at Readville, MA.
The 44th Massachusetts encountered the enemy at Rawle's Mill, and joined the Goldsboro Expedition in December 1862, just missing the Battle of Kinston, but later engaging at White Hall.

they are in at the time of the auction, and we and the seller make

the lot on their behalf, and for ensuring that they have
requested, received and understood any condition report provided
by Hindman.
