Lot Description
[REVOLUTIONARY WAR] -- [STORRS, Experience (1734-1801)]. Manuscript extracts from the diary of Revolutionary War Lieutenant Colonel Experience Storrs, as identified by James H. Storrs of New York. Ca 19th century.

"Extracts from Diary / of / Lieut. Col. Expr. Storrs / of Mansfield Conn / From April 20 1775 to June 28 '75." 21pp, approx. 7 x 9 3/4 in., housed in paper wraps with ribbon tie binding (wear to wrap, some losses, separation along folds).

Transcribed extracts from the diary commence 20 April 1775 and end 28 June 1775. Below the last diary entry in a different hand is the following statement: "The foregoing is a copy of the last part of Lieut. Col Storrs [sic] Diary and is intended to be a verbatim copy of that part of it. Although some words are indistinct or or [sic] illegible which are noted in red ink. The Diary commences November 21. 1774 and ends as above on the 28th of June 1775. [Signed] Jas. H. Storrs." James H. Storrs (1819-1882) was the great-nephew of Experience Storrs, and is identified in other 19-century sources as being the owner of the original Storrs diary. This extract may have been prepared for Henry C. Deming (1815-1872), whose name ("Henry C. Deming / Hartford") appears below the title of the document. Deming served as a US Representative from Connecticut and as mayor of Hartford.

Lt. Col. Experience Storrs led fellow Connecticut Minute Men on their march at the Lexington Alarm in 1775, and served with Connecticut Continental troops under General Israel Putnam. He was present with other members from his Connecticut Regiment at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
