Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Sixth plate ruby ambrotype of infantry sergeant and wife with inscription. [New London], [CT?]: [April 1862].
Sixth plate ruby ambrotype portrait of a seated sergeant in uniform, with his wife standing next to him. (Few lines and spots of loss to image, oxidation to preserver; unsealed.) Housed in a broken case (full separation and loss). Pencil inscription in back of case reads, "Taken at New London April 9th 1862 the day before his leaving for Port Royal." The seated NCO has curly hair and wears his uniform complete with sleeve insignia and gold-highlighted buttons.
