Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Quarter plate tintype of an officer and enlisted men posed near Columbiad seacoast guns.

3 1/8 x 4 1/8 in. tintype. (Significant wear, including bends and creases in plate, surface scratches throughout, rusting to lower edge of plate). An unusual tintype showing a pair of heavy Columbiad seacoast guns, possibly banded, fixed in an unknown coastal fortification. The pivot carriages are constructed of iron rather than wood.  The Columbiad was an older pre-war design cast in 8, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 20 inch smoothbore sizes. Standing at right is a field grade officer wearing a double-breasted frock coat along with two enlisted men.

Estate of Carroll J. Delery III, Formerly the “Historical Shop”
