A group of 16 portraits of Scottish soldiers and civilians in traditional garb, ca late 19th-early 20th century, including:
CDV standing portrait of a pair of Scottish athletes, Donald Dinnie and James Heming, wearing kilts, sporrans, and numerous medals from their various athletic victories. Aberdeen, Scotland: A. Dinnie, [1872] (toning, rip to upper left edge, some soiling and wear to mount). Dinnie's imprint to mount recto and verso. Ink inscriptions identify the two men and date the image to July of 1872. Donald Dinnie (1837-1916) was a Scottish strongman, widely regarded as the nineteenth century's greatest athlete. -- Cabinet card portrait of a Scottish man, identified as a junior officer of the Black Watch, armed with daggers and a claymore sword, and wearing his dress uniform. Malta: Richard Ellis, ca 1895 (toning and some spotting to image, wear to edges and corners; heavy adhesive residue/removal with paper loss to verso). -- Hand colored cabinet card portrait of a bagpiper in dress uniform. Edinburgh: D. Macara, n.d. (toning, light soiling, light wear to mount edges and corners). -- And 13 other photographs, including albumen and silver gelatin examples, and one offset postcard. -- Together, 16 photographs of Scottish men.
