(removed from bound volume, toned). Above title "A Document for All Thinking Men!". -- "Proceedings and Speeches at the Whig Ratification Meeting held in Washington City on Monday evening, June 28, 1852. An account of a speech that "Mr. B.F. Butler made...taunting the Whigs because they did not hold a public meeting to discuss the questions at issue in the coming contest." Benjamin Butler (1818-1893) was a major general in the Union Army during the Civil War and an active politician. In 1851, he was a Democrat. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he became a Republican, before aligning with the Greenback Party in 1874, before rejoining the Democratic Party in 1889 until his death.
