Weed was an influential Whig and Republican newspaper publisher instrumental in the presidential nominations of William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, and John C. Frémont. Also a key advisor to William H. Seward. -- Studio portrait of William Maxwell EVARTS (1818-1901). New York: Rockwood, n.d. Evarts was a Senator from New York, US Attorney General under Johnson, and Secretary of State under Hayes. -- Studio portrait of Roscoe CONKLING (1829-1888). Washington, D.C.: Brady's National Portrait Gallery, ca 1866-1868. Conkling represented New York in both the U.S. House and Senate. -- Studio portrait of Hamilton FISH (1808-1893).
