Lot Description
[WESTERN AMERICANA]. A group of 123 RPPCs & photographs of rural California.

The lot is comprised of approx. 103 postcards, mostly real photo postcards, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 in., or smaller, several unused, and 20 silver gelatin photographs, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 in., or smaller, showing towns, landmarks, landscapes, and personalities in rural California, including multiple views of missions. Many of the scenes are identified in the negative. California locations such as Warner Hot Springs, Chualar, Copperopolis, Calico, Grass Valley, Hornitos, and Mojave are represented in the collection. 

Highlighted titles/scenes include: Blacksmith shop, Chualar, CA. -- Big Bear Valley Dam. -- Mission San Luis Rey. -- Carmel Mission. -- San Diego Mission. -- Hydraulicing at La Grange Mines, Weaverville, CA. -- Jail 1849 at Hornitos, CA. -- Ruins of post office, Calico, CA. -- Idaho Maryland Mine, Grass Valley, CA. -- Chaffee and Chamberlain at Bret Harte Cabin, Big Oak Flat Road above Groveland, CA. -- "Indian Storage Basket." -- Indian Guide, Warner Hot Springs. -- Vaughn's Observation Tower overlooking Imperial Valley at Boulder Park Tavern near Jacumba, CA. -- Sport fishing at the mouth of the Klamath River. 

Together, approx. 123 real photo postcards and photographs. Condition generally good to very good. Some with edge wear, toning, and album residue to verso.
