A group of approx. 55 RPPCs and photographs of California disasters incl. the 1914 Mt. Lassen eruption, including:
Approx. 51 real photo postcards, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 in., or smaller, many unused, and 4 silver gelatin photographs, 3 1/4 x 5 1/2 in., or smaller, documenting natural disasters in California. Many of the scenes are identified in the negative.
Highlighted titles/scenes include: Approx. 15 RPPCs capturing Mt. Lassen, which is a lava dome volcano and the southernmost active volcano in the Cascade Range of the Western United States. Several views document the eruption of Mt. Lassen from 1914-1916, as well as men exploring the craters. -- Multiple views documenting the aftermath of the Santa Barbara earthquake in 1925. -- Multiple views of businesses, churches, and other structures impacted by earthquakes such as Logan's Bicycle Shop, Church of our Lady of Sorrow in Santa Barbara, the Hotel Californian, a garage in Los Angeles. -- Flooding scenes, including images of the San Jose flood in 1911. -- At least 2 images taken following the San Francisco earthquake in 1906, including a scene capturing the fire and a view of a series of tents set up in the aftermath with residents posed outside.
Together, approx. 55 real photo postcards and photographs. Condition generally good to very good. Some with edge wear, toning, and album residue to verso.
