Lot Description
[WILD WEST SHOWS]. Cabinet photograph attributed as Frank E. Butler. Chicago, IL: Wilson, n.d.

3 7/8 x 5 1/2 in. cabinet photograph on cardstock mount (possibly a period copy print based on upper and lower margins in print, toning, occasional spotting to print, edge and corner wear to mount). Although unidentified, it has been suggested that the subject may be Frank E. Butler. Based on the studio imprint of Wilson from Chicago, IL, the image could have been taken during Butler's season at the Columbian Exposition, ca 1893.

Frank Butler toured for several years as a champion marksman before meeting his wife, Annie Oakley. Upon finding his wife was a much better marksman, Butler for several years toured with her as "Butler & Oakley." In 1885, the duo joined the Buffalo Bill Wild West. With the exception of the 1888 season, they stayed with Buffalo Bill through the 1902 season.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
